NSCP Stops listening for no reason

#1

Several times a day the nsclient++ service needs restarted on one of my windows 2008 R2 Servers

The service is still displayed as ‘running’

And I can see the process nscp.exe exists

But when I try to telnet to the host I get ‘connection refused’

Similarly when I run ‘netstat -a -b’ on the server it doesn’t show anything listening on that port

There are no event logs generated, and nothing in the nsclient log, there is no firewall running on this server

A simple restart of the service fixes the problem but it continues to happen every day, I’ve tried reinstalling from scratch

Any suggestions for this?

What plugins or external commands are you running? Have you tried troubleshooting the config?

Its mostly running a mix of built in scripts and in-house developed powershell scripts

But the client install and scripts are identical on about 2000 windows 2008 servers and this is the only one that has an issue like this

Is there a command I can run to test it locally when its in this state?
