Using NSClient++ via an SSH tunnel

#1

I am monitoring multiple machines. One of the machines I am monitoring is running an older version of NSClient++ (0.4.1.73) WinServer1. I have a new Windows machine that I’m installing version (0.5.0.62) on WinServer2. I connect to the servers using public keys and an ssh tunnel via freeSSHD.

The first machine I’m connecting to is using port 12489, and is listening via: autossh -M 12489 -f -N -L 12489:127.0.0.1:12489 [email protected]

The second machine also has freeSSHD running on it, but I obviously cannot listen to 12489. So I changed the port to 26700. This command is: autossh -M 26700 -f -N -L 26700:127.0.0.1:26700 [email protected]

I edited the .ini file for 0.5.0.62 and changed all the ports to 26700. I also ran a netstat and got this:

TCP 0.0.0.0:26700 WIN-DGM8RTEL0JL:0 LISTENING 1284 [nscp.exe] TCP 0.0.0.0:26700 WIN-DGM8RTEL0JL:0 LISTENING 1284 [nscp.exe] TCP 0.0.0.0:26700 WIN-DGM8RTEL0JL:0 LISTENING 1284 [nscp.exe] TCP 0.0.0.0:26700 WIN-DGM8RTEL0JL:0 LISTENING 1284 [nscp.exe]

Despite this I am getting these errors in my client from this host:

  • could not fetch information from server
  • Free disk space : Invalid drive

Questions:

  1. Is there an SSL or encryption setting I need to adjust?
  2. How can I get (0.5.0.62) to behave like (0.4.1.73) with the exception of changing the port I’m listening to?
  3. Considering that I’m communicating via an ssh tunnel. Should I keep allowed hosts as localhost and make the password blank?
